Happy News Year's Eve

There are three very significant dates in my life; 3/3/2000, 9/6/1990 and 12/31/1988. The first is my son Jacobs's birth, the second is my daughter Harlee's birth, and the third is the day I married my (literal) best friend. So HAPPY ANNIVERSARY ANDY!!!! YOU ARE MY SOUL!!

On to the real reason for New Year's Eve, are you going to make a New Year's resolution? According to Google dictionary the first definition of Resolution is: "a firm decision to do or not to do something". What will be your firm decision? Will you follow through this year? Do you succeed and complete your resolutions? I have never completed one and I don't think I am alone in this.

I would make that firm decision to do something and fail in the first week. This always set me up to feel like a failure. So why did I make them? because that is JUST what you did, and I always felt like I had to set them as a social obligation.

Where did this tradition come from anyway?

'The custom of setting “New Year’s resolutions” began during this period in Rome two millennia ago, as they made such resolutions with a moral flavor: mostly to be good to others. But when the Roman Empire took Christianity as its official state religion in the 4th century, these moral intentions were replaced by prayers and fasting." billpetro.com/history-of-new-years-resolutions

And there you go, according to Bill Petro, it was a moral intention- mostly to be good to others. Wouldn't that be a pip, being good to others, man we could really learn something from those Romans. I encourage you to go to the website and read more, very interesting.

Have a Happy New Year and many blessings to you. I hope that if you do set resolutions that you succeed. If you don't succeed, don't beat yourself up about it, there is always tomorrow.

What I have learned:

It's okay not to make resolutions if you don't want to. Don't feel like an outcast because it is not the social norm.

It's okay to make resolutions if you want to. Don't beat yourself up if you don't succeed at your resolution.

It's okay to start your own rituals for a new beginning new year; I started a new ritual for myself, I do a New Year tarot spread to help guide me into the new year. I feel more at peace and kind of know which way I am headed.
